The subject for that painting came after a couple inches of snow (again…) followed be a sunny day (at last…) Cantley in Québec is a region full of hills and forest. The town is litterally covered with woodland. Behind our place is such a rugged “boisé” filled with rocks and dead trees. From my kitchen window […]
The seasoned oil painting artist only needs about twelve oil color tubes. Pastel painting needs a few hundred pastel sticks. A big difference! Why so few basic colors in oil painting? Because the artist can mix them to create any desired color. For example, blue with yellow give green. Red with blue give violet. I can’t create color in pastel, so the number of colors I can put on a pastel painting is equals to the number of different pastels stick I have. Ideally I would have an infinite number of those, but I only have about 500. Oh well…
One of my last pastel painting. A 13 x 13 in in the style of Elizabeth Mowry, an outstanding americain pastelist. You can look at my other studies here. Why a study? To learn a specific technique, work with a different colour palette and understand the world of an admired artist. The process goes back to […]
Series of works about the hills of Outaouais (Collines de l’Outaouais), a region that encompasses seven municipalities in Outaouais, north of Ottawa (Canada). Of course, it’s my own personnal vision of the Collines. A lot of forest, a few corn fields here and there and full of hills, kind of mounds of not more than […]
This is the first painting from the series of artworks titled Brasier. When I was paintings it, I wanted to do a diversion from the last one of the Terre de Feux series of works. Almost as if I was bored of these paintings, despite the real pleasure I took painting them. The reds appear […]
These few paintings were inspired by the mysteries and the ghosts hiding in the nights when we were young (and not so young …) Dark blues always attracted me, like children are attracted by scary things lurking in the dark. Spirits springing from the depth et knowledge out of ignorance. Isn’t knowledge the way to liberty?
The “Brasier” series of works depicts the power of forest fires. This series of works have been quite popular. Brilliant! Flaming! Powerful ! Burning! Fires are destructive, lethal, but a necessary evil for some kind of trees to regenerate. Unforgiving but indispensable! Good viewing!
